Description:
Ash veneer, also known as brown ash veneer, is native to Northeast China and Irkutsk, Russia, and is a hardwood veneer mainly used for furniture surface making and interior decoration. The wood grain of Mandshurica veneer is beautiful, light brown and uniform in color. The most popular woodgrain forms of ash veneer are crown cut and quarter cut. Better logs show a unified cathedral crown with clean, straight striations. The annual rings are usually clearly defined, giving the veneer its unique appearance. Among veneers, the less costly porcelain ash veneer has a very similar grain and structure to ash veneer, making it one of the more attractive hardwood veneers.
Chinese ash isn't an expensive hardwood—its price compares to that of white oak—and it's more commonly used as a veneer for utilitarian-grade furniture than high-end furniture. You can sand, stain, and polish it just like solid ash, but keep in mind that ash veneer can be less than 1/32" thick, so be careful when sanding.
